Visa Benefits & Offers

If you have a Visa, you have access to great deals and benefits. The problem is most people don’t know about these benefits or how to get them.

Visa Benefits & Offers (Formerly Visa Cards Africa) is a platform designed to house all the benefits you get as a Visa cardholder in a single place. It caters for Gold, Platinum, Signature and Infinite cardholders with one login and registration experience that then shows you relevant information based on your card type and location. The app has been downloaded more than 200 000 times.

Basically, it’s a site and app with some very clever stuff happening in the background which makes it really, ridiculously easy to get the good stuff your Visa card gives you.

What can it do?

The platform incorporates the following: a 24-hour concierge service, exclusive discounts on car rentals and hotel bookings, special offers and discounts from visa partners, purchase protection & extended warranty on purchased items, airport lounge access, airport dining options and travel insurance. (This is a long list…) It gives you the ability to manage warranty or insurance claims on purchased items, make claims on travel or medical issues, contact various parties in case of an emergency and even generate travel insurance documents.

It brings together Visa and 3rd party APIs along with custom web services to give the user a seamless experience. We even developed our own Visa Cards API that allows eligible banks in Africa to create their own bespoke front end for the platform or integrate Visa Cards Africa right into their own banking apps and websites. Fancy.

There’s an app for it.

In 2020, my team was given the opportunity to create an app version of the Visa Cards platform. This app needed to be delivered before the start of Visa's next financial year in October 2020. Weekly proof-of-work submissions were required, so planning and optimising workflows was critical. My team laid out a day-by-day project plan with all milestones and deliverables.

We used the existing platform UX flows and designs as a basis for this project and looked for ways to make the UX even simpler for cardholders. We also used the increased screen real estate and mobile interactions to reduce visual clutter and help present information more clearly.

The Visa Cards App was successfully delivered on the 30th of September 2020 and will deployed on the Google Play Store and Apple App stores shortly.

This year’s fasion.

My team refreshed the Visa Cards platform design and content each year post launch to keep the platform up-to-date with the brand's evolving CI. We also took advantage of bigger displays, better hardware and faster data connections to create a richer experience and get the good stuff to people in a much icer way.

From left to right: V3 app, V2 mobile and V1 mobile.

The launch.

The super-exclusive Visa Infinite Card and our Visa Cards Africa platform were both launched first to Absa banks' wealth teams in Johannesburg and Cape Town. We crafted an experience that mimicked the treatment an Infinite cardholder can expect so they could feel the benefits they were going to be selling on.

Explaining it.

The kind of people who were being offered Visa Infinite cards have people to do stuff like book holidays for them. We created this video to give their people an overview of all the benefits.
